About this page
In English articles are very important. We use a with one thing. For example ‘I have a pencil’ – which means one pencil. But there are many pencils in the world. If I said “This is the pencil” that would mean there is only one pencil in the world. In English articles give the listener or reader a lot of information. They are very important. We use ‘A’ when talking about one thing and there many be many. We use ‘An’ when the word starts with a vowel sound. For example, Elephant. “That is an elephant”. “This is an apple” but there are many apples in the world. We use ‘The’ when there is only one, or we mean a special case, or there are many but we mean a particular one........Sure there are lots of mobile phones, but I only have one. Now articles are very important in English and very difficult to learn. Do the exercise on the next pages to help you.
